David Axelrod


David Axelrod is a 40-year veteran of American politics and journalism. Prior to becoming a political consultant, Axelrod spent eight years as a reporter and columnist for the Chicago Tribune, including a stint as the City Hall bureau chief. As a political consultant, Axelrod has managed media and communications strategy for more than 150 local, state and national campaigns. Axelrod most recently served as Senior Strategist to President Obama’s successful re-election campaign. He served in that same role in then-Senator Obama’s 2008 presidential campaign, before going on to serve in the White House as Senior Advisor to the President. After the 2012 campaign, Axelrod turned his focus to the Institute of Politics at the University of Chicago to help inspire and train the next generation of leaders.




Lisa Madigan


Lisa Madigan was elected to a fourth term as Illinois Attorney General in November 2014. She is the senior most female Attorney General in the country and the longest serving Attorney General in Illinois history. Recognized for her leadership and integrity, Lisa Madigan has brought a high level of activism to the Office of Attorney General. From her first days in office, she has demonstrated principled leadership, putting policy before politics and focusing her work as the state’s top legal advocate on protecting the people and communities of Illinois, including advocating for the health and well-being of the state’s most vulnerable residents.




Laura Washington


Laura S. Washington is a Chicago Sun-Times columnist, political analyst for ABC 7, and a contributing editor to In These Times magazine. She served as a 2015 Fellow at the University of Chicago’s Institute of Politics. Washington brings more than two decades of experience as a multimedia journalist and nonprofit professional specializing in African-American affairs, local and national politics, race, and social justice. She is the former editor and publisher of The Chicago Reporter, served as deputy press secretary to Mayor Harold Washington and received her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from Northwestern University. Her work has been honored with dozens of local and national awards, including two Emmy Awards, the Peter Lisagor award, the Studs Terkel Award for Community Journalism and the Racial Justice Award from the YWCA. Her work and commentary has been widely featured in the national media, including Time Magazine, the Associated Press, New York Times, NBC Nightly News, MNSBC, PBS News Hour and the BBC.
