On November 17, 2016 CommunityHealth
hosted the second annual
All In Chicago event
This event brought together leadership from hospitals, pharmaceutical and insurance companies, non-profits, local government and community organizations to engage in a conversation about the importance of data and social determinants of health in bringing people together to provide health care access for all Chicago residents.
All In Chicago 2016
At the Event
Mark Humowiecki from the nationally recognized Camden Coalition of Healthcare providers led the 2016 discussion, shedding light on their adaptive approach to addressing healthcare by “solving the right problem” within their community: super-utilization. Looking at how super-utilizers navigate the healthcare system, they found a greater trend that restrains costs, overworks provider personnel, and strains scarce resources.
The panel discussion that followed with Dr. David Ansell, MD (Rush University Medical Center), Nicole Collins Bronzan (Robert Wood Johnson Foundation), Judith Haasis (CommunityHealth), Julie Morita, MD (Chicago Department of Public Health), alongside Humowiecki, addressed the local challenges Chicago faces. One effort discussed was a new partnership between CommunityHealth and Rush University Medical Center to alleviate future costs and help establish a medical home for Chicago’s most vulnerable citizens. “We cannot afford to be institutional silos,” said Dr. Ansell of the need for more strategic partnerships like this to develop.
The purpose of the All In campaign was best expressed by Dr. Morita’s comment at the event: “Our city is only as healthy as the least healthy area.”
