Children's Home + Aid
Alex Martinez is a Mexican-American, Chicago native. He completed his master’s in counseling from The Chicago School of Professional Psychology in 2017 and currently serves as a bilingual mental health provider for Children's Home & Aid. He primarily works with youth in the Belmont-Cragin area of Chicago, specifically at Schubert Elementary school. As a Latino male in mental health, he recognizes the importance of representation in the field in helping to dismantle the challenges he faces against the stigma of men seeking mental health services. In his work, he strives to give children a sense of normalcy in their lives and act as a resource for many families, including mixed-status households. Working with Latinx families has been an indescribable feeling for him, as it has allowed him to continue raising awareness in the field and being an active member of his community.
