Juana Ballesteros, BSN RN MPH
Juana has over twenty years of experience in healthcare, nonprofit, and state government coupled with a deep commitment to addressing health inequities.
Juana joined the American Medical Association’s Center for Health Equity in December 2021 as a Senior Program Manager for Strategy. In this role she manages and provides oversight on the design and operational implementation of high-impact initiatives focused on health equity strategy, development, and strategic alignment. Her expertise in community development, program implementation, and strategic partnership building has served her well in previous roles and especially in her current role.
She has previously implemented community health outreach initiatives at the Illinois Department of Public Health and served as a team member during the state’s COVID-19 response efforts.
Juana proudly sits on both CommunityHealth and Enlace Chicago's Board of Directors. Juana is a sought-out advisor and has presented and written reports, white papers, and academic journal articles on topics related to community health, health disparities, community-based participatory research and health policy. Juana co-authored a chapter in the book Urban Health: Combating Disparities with Local Data, published by Oxford University Press.
Juana has received numerous awards and honors for her leadership, dedication and contributions to improving community health, including the Health Equity Advocacy Alumni Award from her alma mater, University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC) School of Public Health. Juana holds a Bachelor of Science in Nursing and a Master's in Public Health with a concentration in Community Health Sciences, both from UIC. Juana is a Leadership Greater Chicago fellow.
